The last phrase used for this commercial is “When your phone dies, God knows what can happen.” I enjoyed this commercial because I come from a Christian background and I liked seeing this spin on stories and prophecies from my religion. The commercial ends with the viewers looking at a man presumed to be God in heaven while he is looking at his Iphone and complaining about a dead battery. These events include unexplained and uncontained fires and chaos among humans. The commercial beings with the world falling apart and it eventually becomes evident that the world is ending through the many biblical references from the book of Revelations. This commercial was not as humorous as the previous but was more so interesting to me. The second commercial that I viewed from the 2015 Super Bowl, was a commercial for a company called “Mophie” that sells attachable phone chargers for Iphones. Overall, this commercial was very humorous, although it sent more negative subliminal messages than positive, thwarting the viewer into this small set frame of mind. This is understandable because planes are expensive and can be sometimes unaffordable, however with most everyone on the plane being white as well it sends a message that the middle, working, and upper class are predominately white people and those are the only people able to fly on a plane this is not the case. Another negative observation I found was that most passengers on the plane looked to be within the middle class.

I did note that the man was middle-aged and single, which is a positive message as it shows our modern way of relationships and belief that it is okay to be single at an older age, despite this man’s poor attempt at attracting a mate. This observation perplexed me, as I could not understand why there were no people of the global majority on the plane with this man. I first began to see the negative messages such as most people on the plane were white, young, and looked to be in the middle class.

My first impression of this commercial is that it was very humorous and enjoyable, however once I viewed this commercial for a second and third time I began to pick up on the subliminal messages. The commercial ends with the woman fast asleep next to him while he eats his chips and converses with the baby. It then appears that a single young woman is searching for a seat and the man brings out his Doritos bag and offers her a seat, but not before realizing she has a young toddler with her. The man attempts many things including pretending to have a disease and flossing his teeth so that people will not care to sit next to him. The first commercial I will be examining is a Doritos commercial in which a single middle-aged man is sitting alone on a plane attempting to save the seat next to him so that he may sit alone. Although not every commercial sends a negative message to their audience, many still do and I plan on examining three different Super Bowl commercials from 2015 that send both positive and negative subliminal messages at once to their audience. A viewer might believe they are watching a commercial about a new frozen dinner for the family yet what is really being displayed is what the media believes a family should look and behave like. Commercials can display a widely accepted viewpoint with a masked meaning that can affect how the viewer truly sees it. Many people may not consciously grasp the messages put out to them however they are still there. Please enjoy and let me know what you think!Ĭommercials have become an accepted part of watching television, however commercials have a tendency to send subliminal messages to their viewers. Please note that this was not a super in depth essay, but I believe it to be very interesting in the least. I had to choose three commercials and shortly discuss the messages seen within them. This is a short essay I had to write about the everyday subliminal messages within commercials that are commonly seen on television. This is not so political, although I think this is a post everyone should take the time to read.
